DL E&C’s Position related to Vibration Occurrence at D-Tower Seoul Forest
- There is no problem in building safety as a result of diagnosis from topnotch experts in the academe and the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety
- Seems to be micro-vibration unrelated to the building’s structural safety
DL E&C conducted emergency safety diagnosis on the 21st in relation to the vibration situation of the building that occurred on the 20th. We dispatched our 10 doctoral degree holder experts and structure technical experts. For reputable inspection and measurement, Korea’s topnotch structure experts, namely Professor Park Hong-geun from the Dept. of Architecture & Architectural Engineering at Seoul National University (President of the Korea Concrete Institute) and Professor Mun Dae-ho at Dankook University, participated in the inspection and measurement. In addition, the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety carried out safety diagnosis.
The emergency safety diagnosis found no relation between vibration and building safety. “As a result of the inspection, it was confirmed that there is no correlation between the vibration that occurred and the building’s structural safety,” Professor Park explained. According to him, the vibration is estimated to occur due to a specific activity inside the building, and the vibration level seems to be micro-vibration not affecting building safety.
DL E&C plans to perform real-time monitoring by installing measuring equipment on each major floor to analyze the cause of vibration. If the cause is identified, we will devise a problem-solving method.
DL E&C constructed D-Tower Seoul Forest by applying more consolidated earthquake-resistant design. In other words, earthquake-resistant design that is safe during a 6.0~7.0 magnitude strong earthquake was applied. Water leaks or damaged windows are not related to the vibration; it was simple damage or destruction that occurred in the initial stages of residents’ moving in, and repair is currently underway.
DL E&C will do its best to actualize quality that meets customers’ expectations following this incident. We plan to finish work placing the highest priority on customers’ safety.
