DL E&C signed an MOU with Hyundai Oil Bank on August 12 for the eco-friendly construction material business to reduce carbon emissions. DL E&C CEO Ma Chang-min and Hyundai Oil Bank President Kang Dal-ho attended the signing ceremony. Through the business MOU, both companies plan to build a carbonated product production plant using desulfurized plaster and CO2, which are byproducts from the oil refinery facilities operated in Hyundai Oil Bank’s Daesan Plant in Seosan City, Chungnam. Carbonated products are used as raw material of construction materials including cement and concrete. DL E&C will be in charge of design, procurement, and construction of the plant using Hyundai Oil Bank’s desulfurized plaster carbonization technology. The company plans to increase annual output up to 600,000 tons, starting with 100,000 tons in 2022. It will be Korea’s largest CO2 capture and use (CCU) facility upon completion.  
 

Hyundai Oil Bank can reduce the carbon emissions annually generated in its oil refining process by 120,000 tons, which is equivalent to the effect of planting 10 million pine trees. DL E&C plans to adopt the carbon emissions reduction material-using cement and concrete for its apartment and civil engineering sites. The carbon emission reduction material is eco-friendly as there are no worries of natural environment damage compared to the existing cement or concrete made by excavating and processing limestone in mines. The material can reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the production process, and resources can be recycled.
