Daelim announced that it signed an USD 892 million (KRW 1 trillion) contract for the new ammonia plant construction project at the head office of Saudi Arabia’s Ma’aden on October 22. CEO Darren Davis of Saudi Arabia’s state mining company Ma’aden, Daelim General Manager Im Hun-jae, and employees of both companies attended the signing ceremony.

This project involves building an ammonia production plant in the Ras Al-Khair region located 80km north of Jubail, eastern part of Saudi Arabia. The plant will produce 3,300 tons of ammonia daily using natural gas as raw material. Since ammonia is used in many fields including refrigerant, medical supplies, and artificial seasoning and metal surface processing, it is hailed as a high value-added petrochemical product. The project is slated to commence at the end of this year and will be completed in 2021. The EPC (lump-sum turnkey) mode through which Daelim is in charge of design, equipment and materials, and construction is used.

In 2016, Daelim successfully completed a Ma’aden ammonia plant using the same process as this project. Daelim has been successful in winning the project based on the client’s acknowledgment of its quality and technological competitiveness. By consecutively performing the plant construction for ammonia, a basic factor of chemical fertilizer, Daelim’s technological prowess has been recognized.

Winning this project is truly meaningful since it is the project won by Daelim in Saudi Arabia in 2 years after 2016. Daelim has experiences implementing various projects including Yanbu oil refinery, Al Jubail acid gas and sulfide recovery facilities, and low-density polyethylene plant projects in Saudi Arabia, the largest construction market in the Middle East. Daelim’s technological prowess has been recognized by Saudi Arabia’s largest state companies such as Aramco, Sabic, and Ma’aden. Based on the company’s extensive records and technological capabilities, Daelim is expected to distinguish itself in Saudi Arabia’s plant market where additional orders are predicted.
